Felix Meritis

Amsterdam

The building Felix Meritis (Felicitous through Merit) on the Keizersgracht in Amsterdam was founded in
1787 by wealthy citizens for the advancement of the arts and sciences. Graded a National Monument, it is one of the most beautiful 18th century buildings in Amsterdam. Since it’s foundation it has been at the cultural heart of Amsterdam, but suffered a period of decline mid 20th century. In the late 1990’s the former owner decided to restore the building to it’s original splendour and reinstating it in the cultural landscape of Amsterdam. Dependant on available means, a step by step renovation has taken place, supported throughout by ToornendPartners providing restoration, design and cost management.
