Museums do not only exhibit art, they are also responsible for preservation and development of cultural heritage. Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen has an extensive art collection of inestimable value. The conservation of the collections is subject to specific guidelines indicating which (climatic) conditions are necessary. The depots in the museum are too small and do not meet current requirements.
Commissioned by Stadsontwikkeling Rotterdam and the museum, ToornendPartners drew up the Programme of Requirements for the new Collection Building in which the entire depot collection is to be centralized and stored under the required conditions. The Collection Building, in accordance with MVRDV design, is located adjacent to the museum.
