A-theater

Middelburg

Middelburg started developing of a new regional, a so called ‘A’ theatre in 2003. At the beginning of 2005, when construction had started, surrounding buildings started subside and incur damages due to changes in the ground water level. The walling of the underground car park, was faulty, causing the basin to fill with water overnight. ToornendPartners was asked to give advice on whether the project could proceed and if so, in what form. Deciding to post phone liabilities and allocating blame until a solution for the technical problem was found, an extensive management report was drafted outlining the current state of the project, technically and financially. Comprehensive options for the project, including repairs, revising the brief, alternative locations and other value engineering possibilities were researched, finding feasible options. The political impact, however, was so great that it lead to the project being cancelled late 2005. Since then, ToornendPartners successfully gave technical support to the legal team of Middelburg, resolving the incurred financial damages and preparing legal actions against the original team of consultants and contractors.
